Heyo Founders and Side Hustlers 🤙

We’re back. Last week, I took some time off the grid while traveling—sometimes stepping away from the internet is exactly what you need. But now I’m recharged and ready to talk about something important: the hardest part of building in public isn’t finding something interesting to say or dealing with silence when no one engages—it’s something else entirely.

It’s overthinking.

You write, delete, rewrite, second-guess, and eventually shelve it for another day. Sound familiar? We've all done it.

Overthinking keeps you invisible. And invisible founders don’t grow.

So, how can you ditch the overthinking and actually build in public?

Here's a straightforward approach that's worked for me (and many other founders I know):

Share what you're actually doing

Forget aiming for the perfect insight. Just share today's progress.

Built a landing page? Share it.

Tested a new headline? Post about it.

Made a mistake? Even better—that’s authentic content.

Set your "just post it" goal

Decide upfront—2 tweets a week, 1 LinkedIn post, whatever feels manageable.

Commit to shipping. No endless edits. No waiting for perfection.

Remember, clarity comes from action, not from hours of contemplation.

Write to your past self

Skip the broad audience and speak directly to yourself from three months ago.

What would have helped you then?

That’s the kind of content that resonates deeply.

Building in public isn't about being flashy or flawless.

It’s about honesty.

Honesty about what you're building, the lessons you're learning, the struggles you're facing, and the steps you're taking next.

That's what your audience wants to see. Not polished perfection—just real insights and genuine experiences.

You've got something valuable to share. Don't let overthinking hold you back.

Key Takeaways

Building in public isn’t about perfection. It’s about:

✔ Sharing your authentic journey
✔ Consistency over intensity
✔ Embracing vulnerability and learning from feedback
✔ Taking action instead of overthinking

What’s on deck for next week…

Next week, we’re expanding on this topic with How I Organize My Content Planning for Building in Public (+ Free Notion Template)—because trying to build consistently without a clear plan is a quick path to burnout

If you’re constantly overthinking your next post, struggling to find your voice, unsure what’s valuable enough to share, or worried about getting it "wrong," this one’s for you.

I’ll show you exactly how I use Notion to plan, organize, and streamline my content creation—so you can share confidently, consistently, and authentically.

If you’ve got a topic you want me to dive into, or any feedback to help make this newsletter even better, let me know 🤙

Let's build and start up….

Cheers,

Billy
